Ministries
Our Mission Statement: We gather as God's people to deepen our understanding of Christ; to spread His word and teachings; and to reach out to our church family, our community, and the world through acts of compassion, kindness, and love.
First Presbyterian Church participates in local, national, and global mission projects including hunger ministries, shelters, blanket ministry, counseling centers, scholarships for our nursery school; adults and youth participate in the Delaware work camp to build ramps and roofs for families in need, and we donate aid for disaster relief areas.
Locally, we participate in Blessings in a Backpack, a hunger ministry that provides food over the weekend for children at risk of going hungry. We are cooperating at present with Gansevoort Elementary School.
We also support local hunger ministries with food collections for the Bread of Life, Salvation Army, Rome Rescue Mission, Missions of the Christ Child at St. Peter’s Church, Catholic Charities, and the Bill Gavin Food Pantry in Lee Center. Additionally, we raise money for the Bread of Life and Rome Rescue Mission with our annual hunger walk and spare change challenge; we cook meals for the Rome Rescue Mission twice a month, cooking on Tuesdays. Contact Liz Clough if you'd like to help.
First Presbyterian Church opened a Mission Closet with clothing, footware, household goods and toys for people in need. The goods are available free with no questions asked.
We also support our troops with care packages, Carenet with donations of diapers, children’s clothing and items, and the Emmaus House in Utica with donations of toiletries.
